Search me

Google have released their 2001 index so you can see what search was like in ancient times. Of course, the first thing I did was google my past self with the following result:

2001

Here is what the same search looks like today.

today

Some things never change.

I wonder if the results below reflect the exponential growth of the internet, the increased range of Google’s trawling or some way in which the 2001 index is limited.

“Barack Obama” – 671 hits for 2001; “about 67,800,000″ today.

    Cf

“Bill Gates” – “about 647,000″ for 2001; “about 39,000,000″ today.

“John McCain” – “about 158,000″ for 2001; “about 45,300,000″ today.

The best though: in 2001, “Your search – “sarah palin” – did not match any documents.” “about 19,200,000″ today.
